Gadabout was created by a sassy left-coast American (Michelle) and a postive fun-loving Australian (Jade). After many years of living and travel abroad (0ver 30 different countries between the two of us!) we were tired of the boring touristy information in many travel guides. We started Gadabout as an offbeat alternative guide to urban adventures for those seeking an unique experience.
Gadabout is the insider guide for the unconventional and off-the-beaten-path urbanite who prefers a unique and authentic city experience. In effect, we exhibit non-tourist and non-mainstream information for those seeking the local life experience or alternative adventures.
We cover fun, different, oddball and eccentric sides to city information. You won't find much of the typical stuff here that is found on other tourism sites, because we instead cover things they don't: all so that you can get a unique experience in the cities we cover.

City fun is expensive...but going out shouldn't break the bank. Our articles, restaurant reviews, and stories offer new ways to explore the city...and often on a budget! Don't waste your time accidentally hitting the over-priced touristy locations and restaurants in a city. Their quality if poor and you're missing out on the local haunts! We cover the places locals go, and the things that locals do.
Ever notice that when you follow a large touring group often the guide is talking before you even catch up? Or when using a travel guide so many things are out of date? Are you tired of 'looking' like a tourist?
It's possible to do as you like, and feel like a local, all with the information our users submit. You get to visit a new place without looking like a tourist!. Your way, at your pace.

Noticed how the guide books used to be, in the old days, written only by people who lived in that country? It's not that way anymore, and the quality of the guidebooks shows it! Often they're not accurate, or missing cool new items, or just plain lame and full of uninteresting fluff covering just the overly-touristy things to see and do. Yuck.
Our content is fun, alive, interesting and filled with things to spur anyone's urban adventures. They are relevant, up-to-date, and about cool off-beat things. We will not cover the Eiffel Towe...but we WILL cover tower-jumping from it! We cover things others often do not. Our goals is to help you really experience a city like a local urban adventurer would!

Gadabout believes in social responsibility. For each new submission by a new user we give $1.00 to charity. We also run an annual charity event to raise money.
The Girl Effect raises money to help girls in developing nations have a chance to go to school. Be sure to check our event group ( Paris Urban Adventures ) for the events and times when we'll be donating and raising money for this endeavor.
